Community project fulfills the wishes of young people in Darmstadt
In Darmstadt, the shelter at the Red Square in the Eberstadt district has been upgraded. New seating was installed at the initiative of local youths to significantly improve the area's appeal.
Three new benches for improved quality of stay
The request for additional seating was brought to the attention of the "Eberstadt Children and Youth Working Group" through the children's and youth work program. In a joint effort, three new benches with backrests were subsequently installed.
The project was implemented in cooperation between the youth welfare office, the parks department and the Darmstadt municipal works department. The aim was to make a central meeting point in the district more attractive and functional.
Focus on youth participation
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz and Head of Urban Planning Michael Kolmer emphasize the importance of such projects: The ideas and wishes of young people should be taken seriously and actively implemented in all parts of the city.
The feedback from local youth organizations is also positive. The new seating is already proving popular and offers a sheltered meeting place, especially in bad weather.
Further improvements planned
The new benches invite people to linger, play, and chat. Werkhof Darmstadt eV is currently also considering installing a table to further enhance the shelter.
