A three-day workshop provides argumentation training against exclusion.
As the city of Reinheim reports, the children's and youth services, the youth forum, and the association "Against Forgetting – For Democracy" jointly conducted a three-day democracy project with the Dr. Kurt Schumacher School. The workshop took place from November 18th to 20th, 2025, at the cultural center in the Hofgut. A total of 20 students participated.
Training for a confident demeanor
The focus was on argumentation training designed to empower young people to respond appropriately to discriminatory statements. Participants explored prejudices and mechanisms of exclusion and developed strategies for clearly and constructively representing their own positions.
Upon completion of the training, the young people can then pass on their knowledge to other classmates.
Professionally supported by experienced coaches
The workshop was led by trained coaches Nelson Tang and Anna-Lena from the association "Against Forgetting – For Democracy." They provided the group with expert guidance and pedagogical support during the training sessions. The city's youth services department was also pleased with the participation and feedback and announced plans to continue the collaboration next year.
Support from school and youth forum
Principal Ralf Loschek supported the project and made participation possible. The workshop could also attract new, engaged young people to the Reinheim Youth Forum. Politically interested young people aged 14 and over are welcome to contact the forum at any time.
Significance for democratic education
Mayor Manuel Feick praises the project as an important sign of a living democracy: The initiative strengthens argumentation, cohesion and respect and shows how the commitment of young people enriches a community.
