Commemorative speeches and wreath-laying ceremonies at four Darmstadt cemeteries
The City of Darmstadt has announced that will be held on Sunday, November 16th , for Remembrance Day at the Waldfriedhof cemetery and at the cemeteries in Arheilgen , Eberstadt , and Wixhausen . Citizens and media representatives are invited to attend.
Forest Cemetery: Commemorative speech and wreath laying ceremony
The main municipal memorial service begins at 5 p.m. at the entrance to the Waldfriedhof cemetery (Am Waldfriedhof 25).
Mayor Hanno Benz will deliver a commemorative address and lay a wreath.
Musical accompaniment will be provided by the brass ensemble "Brass on Mission" .
Arheilgen: Commemoration with the VdK
The wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Arheilgen cemetery (Weiterstädter Straße 46) at 6:30 p.m. Mayor
Benz will also deliver a commemorative address there, together with the Arheilgen branch of the VdK (Association of Socially Disadvantaged People ).
Wixhausen: Memorial service in the early afternoon
The ceremony at the Wixhausen cemetery (Auwiesenweg 18) begins at 2 p.m. The
memorial speeches will be given by Pastor Ingo Stegmüller and Wolfgang Bender (VdK).
Eberstadt: Memorial service in the funeral hall
The Eberstadt district administration, the local church congregations, and the VdK local chapter invite you to the funeral hall of the Eberstadt cemetery (Palisadenstraße 5)
3:30 p.m. The bells of the Protestant and Catholic churches will ring at 3:25 p.m.
The program includes, among other things:
- Organ music by Larissa Dzialas
- Commemorative speech by Mayor Benz
- Musical contributions from the Frohsinn 1842 Eberstadt singing club
- Commemorative speech by Christine Braxton (VdK Eberstadt)
- Memorial service in prayer led by Pastor Christoph Nowak
- Wreath-laying ceremony at the cemetery of honor

The National Day of Mourning is a national day of remembrance in Germany and is one of the solemn days of mourning. It commemorates the victims of war and tyranny of all nations. It was first observed in 1925 and has been held every year since 1952 on the two Sundays before the first Sunday of Advent.
