The restructuring plan aims to secure the long-term viability of operations and childcare
The City of Darmstadt, a center of science and technology, leases three daycare centers whose properties are held on a long-term lease from Bauverein AG and which are scheduled for comprehensive renovations starting next year. The affected centers are the "Schatzkiste" children's center at Rubinweg 2, the "Papillon" daycare center at Borsdorffstraße 1, and the "Wurzel" daycare center at Elisabeth-Schumacher-Straße 50.
Intensive coordination talks have taken place in recent weeks between the real estate management of the city of Darmstadt (IDA) , the Department IV and BVD Gewerbe GmbH , a subsidiary of Bauverein AG.
City Treasurer André Schellenberg explains: “ I am pleased that the real estate management department of the City of Darmstadt and BVD Gewerbe GmbH have developed a sound renovation plan for all three daycare centers. This plan will now be implemented quickly. Furthermore, the city and BVD Gewerbe GmbH have reached an amicable agreement on the outstanding financing issues for the upcoming renovations and the long-term use of the daycare centers.”
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz added: “ It is gratifying that the renovation of the three daycare centers has been initiated. The planned measures will ensure the smooth operation of the facilities and local childcare in the long term. ”
Planned measures from spring 2026 onwards
As part of the approved renovation plan, various construction measures are to be implemented starting in spring 2026
for the "Schatzkiste" children's center include the complete replacement of the wooden roof terrace, including its substructure . Repairs will also be carried out on the exterior facade and individual windows . After completion of the work, an assessment will be made to determine what improvements can be implemented in the outdoor area of the daycare center.
The "Papillon" and "Wurzel" are also slated for renovations, including the replacement of their wooden facades and window work . Furthermore, partial installed individual rooms of all three facilities improve heat protection during the summer months
