Intermunicipal micromobility – 60 e-bikes for flexible use
A new pilot project to promote sustainable mobility will launch in Weiterstadt on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. A total of 60 electric rental bikes from the provider Bolt will be available in all parts of the town until September 2025. A special feature: the service area includes not only Weiterstadt but also Darmstadt. Users can flexibly rent and return the e-bikes between the two cities.

New mobility alternative for Weiterstadt
Lutz Köhler, First Deputy District Administrator of the Darmstadt-Dieburg district, emphasizes the significance:
"It's only logical that residents want to travel from Weiterstadt to Darmstadt by e-bike. The fact that they can now do so is a major step towards a mobility revolution. To our knowledge, this inter-municipal network is the first of its kind in the region."

also "Weiterstadt is one of the few cities of this size that are now specifically promoting micromobility. The project offers an environmentally friendly alternative, especially for journeys to districts such as Gräfenhausen or Schneppenhausen."
Arne Rath, Managing Director of HEAG mobilo , sees this as an important test run for future concepts:
“Our buses already connect towns and municipalities in the district. With this pilot project, we are analyzing how e-bikes can meaningfully complement public transport.”
Data-driven adaptation of the offer
HEAG mobilo supports the project with continuous data analysis. This allows the service to be specifically adapted to capacity utilization and popular routes.
A similar pilot project was already carried out in the north of Darmstadt in 2023 – with positive results: Due to high demand, the rental bike fleet was extended to the entire city area.
