More than 60 visitors have their devices, clothing and bicycles repaired
More than 60 citizens attended the Repair Café organized by the Weiterstadt Volunteer Agency (WEA) at the community center in Weiterstadt at the end of February. The aim of the event was to repair broken everyday items and thus prevent waste.

Many visitors brought electrical appliances, bicycles, jewelry, or clothing. Volunteer helpers assisted in making the items functional again.
Volunteers repair everyday objects
The volunteer repairers checked electrical connections, helped re-string broken pearl necklaces, changed watch batteries, and altered clothing, among other things. A knife and scissor sharpener was also on hand, sharpening around 50 knives and scissors.
Many visitors were then able to take their repaired items home with them – from radio alarm clocks to lamps and bicycles.
Food rescue by Foodsavers
In the foyer, so-called food savers distributed rescued food free of charge to visitors. The products came from supermarkets and would otherwise have been thrown away. The interest was correspondingly high: fruit, vegetables, bread, baked goods, as well as meat and sausage products were taken in large numbers.
While waiting, many guests took the opportunity to chat with each other. A relaxed atmosphere developed over coffee and homemade cake baked by members of the volunteer agency.

Repair Café four times a year
The Repair Café is organized four times a year by the Weiterstadt Volunteer Agency. Volunteers provide free assistance in repairing broken items, thus contributing to sustainability and resource conservation.
The next Repair Café with the participation of Foodsavers will take place on May 30, 2026, at the Weiterstadt Civic Center . Further information is available on the Volunteer Agency's website at:
