Hessen Mobil postpones construction start near Darmstadt-Eberstadt due to weather conditions
The planned repair work on the central support of the Reißstraße overpass above the B3 federal highway (Karlsruher Straße) near Darmstadt-Eberstadt is being delayed. Hessen Mobil reports that the start of construction, originally scheduled for Friday, January 9th, must be postponed by at least one week due to the current cold weather conditions.
Hessen Mobil will announce the new start date as soon as weather conditions allow work to be carried out on the structure.
Damage detected during building inspection
During routine structural inspections, damage was discovered on the bridge support. This damage will now be repaired as part of the planned restoration work to ensure the long-term load-bearing capacity of the bridge.
The affected support pillar is located on the B3 highway in the direction of Nieder-Ramstadt. A pedestrian and cycle path also runs through this area.
Temporary pedestrian and cycle path planned
A temporary pedestrian and cycle path will be set up along the main road for the duration of the work. After the construction of a temporary support, the existing foundation of the bridge pier will be gradually exposed. Subsequently, a new bearing surface will be created to renew the impact base.
In addition, concrete repairs in the area of the central support and the application of new corrosion protection are planned.
Closures during the construction phase
During the repair work, the Reißstraße overpass will be completely closed. On the B3 federal highway, the right-hand lane of the two lanes will be closed in the direction of Nieder-Ramstadt.
The total cost of the project amounts to approximately 410,000 euros and is borne by the federal government.
