Forester Heldmann: An important step for the region
State parliament member Hildegard Förster-Heldmann welcomes the progress in the planning of the tram extension from Griesheim to Riedstadt-Goddelau.
"Extending the tram line westward strengthens the connection between Darmstadt and Griesheim and the surrounding communities, and enables links to the S-Bahn lines 6 and 7. This is an important contribution to climate-friendly and socially just mobility in our region."
Two years after the presentation of the feasibility study for extending the tram line from Griesheim to Riedstadt-Goddelau, a final agreement has been reached for conducting a cost-benefit analysis (CBA). The costs, amounting to over €200,000, will be jointly borne by the Darmstadt-Dieburg Public Transport Company (DADINA), the Groß-Gerau District Public Transport Company (LNVG), and the Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV), as announced at the DADINA general meeting on December 19, 2024. The planned CBA will assess the economic benefits of the route, taking into account advantages such as reduced car journeys, fewer accidents, and improvements in climate protection.
“I am very pleased about the progress on the potential extension of the tram line into the Ried region,” said Förster-Heldmann. “This not only advances our climate protection efforts, but also ensures that people in the region are more easily and effectively connected. It is precisely projects like these that make local public transport truly attractive.”
