Sustainable infrastructure for the historical cemetery
The science city of Darmstadt is driving the modernization of the old cemetery. In its most recent meeting, the magistrate decided to start the planning for the conversion of the social and company building. This is intended to implement urgently necessary structural and technical measures and improve the working conditions of the employees.
As stated in a message from the city of Darmstadt , the renovation is required to adapt the building stock of the cemetery administration to current regulations. "Our goal is to adapt the city's administrative and company buildings to the city's most important cemetery to future structural, personnel and climatic conditions," explains green area emerge Michael Kolmer. The last comprehensive structural change took place in the early 1980s and no longer corresponds to today's requirements.
Listed renovation with optimized land use
When planning, special emphasis is placed on monument protection and the limited area reserves of the cemetery. It is planned, among other things:
- The dismantling of individual areas for the restoration of historical axes.
- The compression of the buildings along the stove by increasing.
- The restructuring of the depot for a compact and more efficient use.
The corner building on Nieder-Ramstädter Straße/Herdweg will in future accommodate the staff rooms on two floors. The previous access for commercial vehicles is preserved and separates this area from the new vehicle hall and the mourning hall with the functional rooms of the cemetery.
In addition, the construction of a pavilion along the historic chapel is planned, which includes administrative rooms and public toilets.
Modern infrastructure for employees and visitors
"The planned modernization creates a contemporary infrastructure for citizens and a future -oriented work environment for the employees of the cemetery administration," continued Kolmer.
A previously created feasibility study checked different variants and focused on promoting the historical structure and on an economically sensible structural implementation.
After the decision by the city council, the planning process is to be implemented as quickly as possible in order to avoid long -term provisions.
