New construction project on schedule – bridge demolition planned for 2027
Darmstadt – Preparations for the construction of the new Rheinstraße bridge are progressing according to plan. According to the latest quarterly report from the Darmstadt Urban Development Company (DSE), the necessary amendment application was submitted to the responsible ministry on time. The goal is to demolish the existing bridge in 2027.
The next project phase, starting in November, involves soil investigations. These will test the load-bearing capacity for the planned abutments and the soil's permeability to rainwater.
“We are on schedule and making good progress,” explained Mayor Hanno Benz and Head of Mobility Paul Georg Wandrey. They noted that it was particularly positive that the work carried out so far had hardly any impact on traffic. The motorway's traffic jam warning system has not yet had to be activated.
In parallel with the investigations, the commissioned planning office is developing a demolition concept and preparing the tender for the work. Planning for the rail replacement service has also already begun. The affected municipalities will be closely involved in this process.
