City confirmed: Railway shift has no influence on the completion date
Despite the announced shift of the general renovation of the Frankfurt - Heidelberg through Deutsche Bahn by three years, the completion date for the new Rheinstraßenbrücke in Darmstadt remains unchanged. This was announced by mobility director Paul Georg Wandrey .
"My decision to plan the Rheinstrasse bridge 'new' and to minimize the dependencies on the DB as far as possible is now paying off," explains Wandrey. The general renovation of the railway was originally planned for 2027 , but was now postponed to a later date.
Replacement lock break scheduled early
As early as December 2023, the city of Darmstadt had adjusted the project and applied for an additional blocking break from Deutsche Bahn for a possible demolition of the existing bridge. This alternative time window is located in the first quarter of 2028 and, according to Wandrey, is already noted in the internal system of the railway. A final approval is still pending, but is expected.
Project continues as planned
"The planning and tender of the bridge construction continue as planned - regardless of the changes on the part of the train," emphasizes Wandrey. The blocking breaks required for bridge construction are also located in the railway process and are continuously updated.
The commissioned engineering office has the order to guarantee the deadline for the necessary blocking breaks so that the new Rheinstrasse bridge can go into operation for the tram by 2029 .
Wandrey: "Although the shift of the railway measures, the buffer times are reduced, but the planned completion date is not endangered thanks to early planning."
