Riedstadt city administration offers students exciting insights
Riedstadt. How does a city administration actually work? This question was the focus of a special project in which the seventh-grade classes of the Martin-Niemöller-School Riedstadt city administration for three days . The aim was to give the young people a practical insight into the diverse tasks of municipal administration.
In the large meeting room on the third floor of the town hall, Julia Galley from the parliamentary office first welcomed the students. Using a presentation, she explained the tasks, structures, and departments Mayor Marcus Kretschmann gave the introduction and subsequently answered the numerous questions from the young people on all three days.
A hands-on town hall
After the theoretical introduction, the classes continued in small groups : In various departments, the students were able to experience firsthand how administration works. Some groups visited the registry office , the city police, or the press office , while others learned about the environmental department , the social and integration office , the personnel service or the residents' registration office .
The data protection officer , the legal advisor and the building maintenance staff explained their roles and answered questions. The impressions gained were then to be shared within the school – allowing each class to benefit from the knowledge of the others.
Mayor Kretschmann was delighted by the commitment of the young people:
"It's great to see how interested the students are. Administration often seems abstract – but there's a lot of exciting work behind it that makes daily life in our city possible."
The seventh graders finally returned to their school with many new impressions and a better understanding of local processes.
