The city of Darmstadt is establishing a no-stopping zone and short-term parking area
As the City of Darmstadt announces, measures to improve traffic safety on Am Pelz street in the Heimstättensiedlung housing Monday, November 3, 2025. The aim is to make the route to school and daycare safer in the vicinity of the kindergarten and the children's and youth center of the Evangelical St. Matthew's Parish .
“It is particularly important to us that children can manage their way to daycare and school as well as to leisure activities as independently and safely as possible,” emphasizes transport officer Paul Georg Wandrey .
No-stopping zone and short-term parking planned
A no-stopping zone on the east side of Am Pelz street between the fire department access road and the entrance to the daycare center . This is intended to visibility at the crossing and prevent dangerous bottlenecks.
Immediately adjacent to the fire lane, a short-term parking area to prevent the area from being permanently blocked by parked cars. This will ensure clear visibility and encourage drivers their speed as soon as they enter from Heimstättenweg .
Contribution to peace on mobility
“With this measure, we are noticeably increasing traffic safety in the vicinity of the kindergarten and the children’s and youth center,” explains Wandrey. “The no-stopping zone and the short-term parking space are part of a city plan that strengthens sustainable mobility and peaceful mobility in Darmstadt – that is, respectful and safe coexistence among all road users.”
The changes were agreed upon in consultation with the road traffic authority , the police and the Evangelical St. Matthew's parish . Implementation will be carried out in such a way as to minimize disruption for local residents
