Young generation is committed to maintaining and promoting the rose tradition
With the founding of the Hessen-Darmstadt Rose Friends' Circle, the German Rose Society (Deutsche Rosengesellschaft eV) gained another active member. On September 3, 2025 , five students and two schoolgirls from Darmstadt and the surrounding area joined forces to establish the society's newest circle of friends.
Lennart Sigmund will take over the leadership , supported by his deputy Oskar Größler and Marcel Marburger as treasurer.
"I am very pleased that young people with diverse backgrounds and interests are coming together here in Darmstadt under the umbrella of the Rose Society and are engaging in exchange," says Lennart Sigmund.
They now plan to building the circle of friends and recruiting new members . "A special thank you goes to the board of the Rose Society and all participants of the Rose Academy, who welcomed us so warmly and encouraged us to take this step," Sigmund adds. Christa Nitschke , who has been dedicated to roses in Hesse for over two decades, will also continue to advise the new group.
In the coming months, the Friends' Association plans its first joint events in Darmstadt and the surrounding area. The goal is to attract more rose lovers from the region and promote exchange about rose care, breeding, and cultural history.
