The younger generation is committed to preserving and promoting the rose tradition
With the founding of the Hesse-Darmstadt Rose Society, the German Rose Society gained another active group. On September 3, 2025, five university students and two schoolgirls from Darmstadt and the surrounding area joined together to establish the society's newest circle of friends.
Lennart Sigmund will lead the organization , supported by his deputy Oskar Größler and Marcel Marburger as treasurer.
"I am delighted that here in Darmstadt, young people with diverse backgrounds and interests are coming together under the umbrella of the Rose Society and engaging in dialogue," said Lennart Sigmund.
They now intend to building the circle of friends and recruiting new members . "Special thanks go to the board of the Rose Society and all participants of the Rose Academy who welcomed us so warmly and encouraged us to take this step," added Sigmund. Christa Nitschke , who dedicated over two decades to promoting roses in Hesse, will also continue to advise the new group.
In the coming months, the group of friends is planning its first joint events in Darmstadt and the surrounding area. The aim is to attract more rose enthusiasts from the region and to promote the exchange of information about the care, breeding, and cultural history of roses.
