Senior citizens' afternoon on October 16th will offer tips on scam calls, the "grandchild scam", bogus tradesmen and other fraud schemes
The VdK local chapter in Eberstadt invites senior citizens to an afternoon event on the topic of "Safety in Old Age" on Friday, October 16, 2026. It will begin at 3 p.m. in the St. Josef Catholic Parish Hall in Darmstadt-Eberstadt.
The focus is on scams and other situations that older people in particular may encounter in everyday life. The message is aimed not only at senior citizens themselves, but also at their relatives.
From shock calls to fake emails
The speaker is Claudia Ehry. She is a volunteer safety advisor for senior citizens and, according to the VdK (Association of Socially Disadvantaged People), was trained for this task at the South Hesse Police Headquarters.
Using concrete examples, the presentation will cover topics such as shock calls, the grandparent scam, impersonating police officers and tradespeople, fake emails, and door-to-door sales. The aim is to explain how to recognize potential fraud attempts and how those affected should react in such situations.
Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Coffee and cake will be available. For better planning, the VdK requests that you register by phone. The event is open to members of the VdK Eberstadt local chapter and guests.
