Drive digital education forward: new support for IT services
In view of the increasing demands in school digitization, the science city of Darmstadt temporarily increased its staff in school IT. As stated in a press release from the science city of Darmstadt, three work students from the Technical University of Darmstadt, the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and the Worms University of Applied Sciences were discontinued for half a year to strengthen the media center and the school IT department. The aim is to further optimize the IT service for the 43 Darmstadt schools and to sustainably strengthen the digital infrastructure.
“For us, the digitization of schools has a very high priority. A reliable IT service is a central component and essential so that our students can be trained in the best possible way in the digital age. It is therefore important that we are established in the municipal school office in order to continue to promote school digitization, ”emphasizes school and digitization director Holger Klötzner.
Reinforcement for the IT teams
The additional work students support two central areas of school IT:
- Server and network team: Jonas Haug (TU Darmstadt) improves the WLAN supply and the connection of the schools to the central school network.
- Client/Mobile Device team: Juliette Djusse Tsoata (Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences) and Mylene Moukam (Worms University) take care of the display of the approximately 7,500 mobile devices with school apps as well as the procurement of licenses and software products for lessons.
The new forces work closely with the schools to ensure the most efficient and needs -based equipment.
"A contemporary education is the engine for lifelong learning and an important location factor for science, economy and culture," continued Klötzner. With the additional personnel support, the city of Darmstadt sets a clear sign of the sustainable further development of digital education in its schools.
