Student representatives emphasize the importance of political participation of young people
The Darmstadt-Dieburg District Student Council (KSV) has issued a statement regarding a planned school strike against conscription. A demonstration is scheduled for Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. in Luisenplatz, Darmstadt.
KSV stated that it acknowledged the date but was not itself calling for participation in the event.
Student representatives emphasize political engagement
At the same time, the student council emphasizes the importance of political participation by young people. Students who engage with political issues and express their opinions publicly should be heard.
“Students who engage with political issues and express their opinions publicly must be heard – especially when it directly affects them,” explained Jakob Zöller, deputy district school spokesperson.
Debate surrounding the Military Service Modernization Act
The announced school strike stems from the debate surrounding the so-called Military Service Modernization Act. According to the student representatives, this issue significantly impacts the lives of young people.
Furthermore, many young people have experienced various social crises in recent years. It is therefore understandable that some of them are now becoming politically active and publicly representing their interests.
Note regarding possible school consequences
The district student council also points out that participating in a strike during school hours can have consequences at school. These include, for example, unexcused absences.
Students should therefore inform themselves about possible consequences before participating. At the same time, the KSV suggests discussing a possible right to strike for students in the future.
