Parks Department renews path between Maulbeerallee and Wielandstraße
Monday, January 12, 2026 the Parks and Green Spaces Department of the City of Darmstadt will be renewing the surface layer of the paths along the Schreberweg greenway in the Arheilgen district. The approximately 280-meter-long connecting path runs between Maulbeerallee and Wieland-/Klopstockstraße .
The reasons for the work include puddles , siltation , grass encroaching onto the path, and a partially eroded surface layer. The repairs are necessary to ensure long-term traffic safety .
Scope of the renovation work
As part of the work, the existing, worn-out surface layer will be completely removed and replaced with a new one. Additionally, the overgrown grass along the sides will be removed to improve water drainage along the path.
In addition, infiltration basins will be created to prevent puddles and siltation in the future.
Construction period and road closure
The path renovation is being carried out by the company Schmitt und Scalzo Garten und Landschaftsbau GmbH . Depending on the weather, the work is expected to take approximately six weeks , with completion anticipated at the end of February 2026
After completion of the main construction work, the road will remain closed for approximately two more weeks to allow the material to settle. During this time, the surface will be compacted by rolling to ensure sufficient stability of the new layer.
Diversion for pedestrian and bicycle traffic
The connecting path will be closed off with a construction fence for the entire duration of the construction. The Parks Department requests that cyclists and pedestrians Maulbeerallee as an alternative route during this time .
