Arheilgen, forest colony and Lincoln settlement benefit
Mayor and Social Affairs Director Barbara Akdeniz on January 22 has a funding notice of over 307,000 euros to promote community work in Arheilgen (Muckerhaus), in the forest colony (Siegfried-Geppert-Haus) and in the Lincoln settlement (district workshop) from the Hessian Minister of Social Affairs Hofmann receive. Since 2016, community work has been supported by the Hessian state funding program community work in these three districts.
Mayor Akdeniz: “I am very pleased that the promotion can continue the successful work in Arheilgen, in the forest colony and in the Lincoln settlement. It enables us to create effective offers that are based on the needs of the residents and at the same time enable participation in social life. ”
Darmstadt is a growing and economically prospering city with a large -scale dynamics and international flair and offers a wide range of infrastructure at a high level. Nevertheless, there would also be poverty and social exclusion, according to Akdeniz. This is shown in the social areas and the direct neighborhood. Therefore, a special view of socially disadvantaged districts is of great importance in the context of community work. At the same time, it is important to strengthen and stabilize the social areas: “Community work is an important pillar of local social policy to overcome poverty and social exclusion. Under the premises of Darmstadt social policy - prevention, participation, social space orientation and inclusion, we work together and consistently exclusion, segregation, stigmatization and disadvantage due to social or ethnic origin. The city has underlined this commitment for many years by providing municipal means to implement and secure community work on site. In addition, the strengthening of new neighborhoods such as in the Lincoln settlement is of particular value. ”
On the one hand, qualified, social pedagogical specialists are supported and enabled socially disadvantaged people to actively participate in political processes and to formulate their interests and needs, on the other hand, the principle of community work also affects the structural change in segregating conditions. The community work in Arheilgen, the forest colony and the Lincoln settlement is implemented by the sponsor Regional Diakonie Darmstadt-Dieburg on behalf of the science city of Darmstadt.
"As a carrier, we welcome the fact that the community work at the 3 locations is supported with state funds for another two years and advocate the state government to continue the funding program even after 2026," said Jenna Reibold Head of the Regional Diakonie-Darmstadt Dieburg. “As a carrier with a needs -based social work on site, the resources enable us to continue to counter the diverse needs of people. The activation and strengthening of people towards more self -authorization is particularly important to us. ”
In order to create and establish a sustainable social and political awareness among the residents of the neighborhoods and quarters, so that they actively advocate their rights and concerns, time and personnel resources in community work are required.
“In our view, a significant increase in financial resources for municipalities is necessary to promote long -term neighborhood development. In this context, financing by the state of Hesse sends a positive signal to the people who live in social areas with special development needs. In view of the progressive municipalization of social aid, it is of central importance to adequately strengthen community work on site in order to ensure long -term participation of people in the funded quarters, ”adds Jenna Reibold. Locations of the community work are located in Eberstadt-Süd, the Pallaswiesen Mornewegviertel (Caritas Association), the Lincoln settlement, Kranichstein, Waldkolonie, Arheilgen (sponsor regional Diakonie Darmstadt-Dieburg) and the postal settlement (bearer together in the postal settlement eV). Depending on the location, they are borne by the science city of Darmstadt with the help of federal and state funding as well as by own funds of the respective social organizations.
