Free professional development for educators – badge testing will soon also be possible on-site
The DLRG Eberstadt is participating in the nationwide project "Seahorse for All," which the German Lifesaving Association (DLRG) is conducting together with its partner NIVEA. The aim is to qualify more educational professionals as lifeguards and later as swimming instructors – so that more children can learn to swim safely in the future.
Current figures show that 20 percent of children between the ages of six and ten cannot swim – twice as many as in 2017. The project aims to counteract this by allowing educational professionals to administer the Seahorse swimming badge test themselves. This includes educators, teachers, and childminders.
Training in several steps
As a first step, participants complete a lifesaving course with the DLRG (German Lifesaving Association) in Eberstadt and earn their silver lifesaving badge . This is followed by two further courses:
- Swimming assistant training : In a two-day course, methods are taught to playfully introduce children to water, safety and first swimming movements.
- Swimming Instructor Assistant : This second two-day course qualifies participants to administer the Seahorse swimming badge test and is recognized by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) as a preliminary qualification for a trainer's license.
Participation is free
Thanks to NIVEA's support, participation in the entire program is free of charge. The courses also qualify as professional development. In addition to the qualifications, the project offers personal benefits: swimming is considered a particularly healthy and joint-friendly sport – a great way to balance the daily work routine in the educational field.
