Over 50 groups will present initiatives and opportunities to participate at Luisenplatz
On Saturday, June 28, 2025, the City of Darmstadt, together with the Self-Help Office and the Volunteer Center, invites you to the Self-Help and Civic Engagement Day at Luisenplatz. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 53 groups, associations, and initiatives will present the wide spectrum of civic engagement in Darmstadt – from self-help and social projects to environmental and educational issues.
The event offers personal conversations, opportunities for exchange, and concrete ways to get involved for people who want to volunteer or find support. Mayor Barbara Akdeniz will open at 10 a.m. Nina Hollatz from the Paritätische Hessen (a social welfare organization) will also address the participants.
“The Self-Help and Civic Engagement Day brings together people who are committed to helping others and invites everyone to become part of this strong network,” emphasizes Mayor Akdeniz. “I am very pleased that we can once again demonstrate this year how much solidarity and compassion there is in our city.”
A broad range of topics from health to sustainability
The information booths on Luisenplatz cover a wide range of socially relevant areas – from self-help for illnesses , mental health and addiction, to hospice and dementia care, as well as sustainability initiatives and opportunities for social participation . Those interested can find out about volunteer opportunities or make new contacts directly on site.
Promotion and organization
The day of action is supported by Paritätische Projekte gGmbH and funded by the statutory health insurance funds (GKV) , the Bürgerstiftung Darmstadt , the Sparkasse Darmstadt , ENTEGA and the city of Darmstadt .
