The NALA project promotes integration into the labor market through low-threshold, local services
As part of the "Sustainable Living and Working" (NALA) project, Werkhof e. V. offers unemployed people in Darmstadt local support on their path to qualification and employment. One example is the "Handmade Together" sewing course, which takes place in Eberstadt-Süd. Under expert guidance, participants can further develop their creative skills, exchange ideas, and support each other.
“Through cooperation, exchange, and mutual support, a sense of community develops. This forms the basis for further steps into the world of work. But recognizing one's own abilities is also important in order to get closer to the job market again,” says Mayor and Head of Social Services Barbara Akdeniz .
Creative offering with a sustainable approach
The course is led by Carmen Eberling from Werkhof e. V. Participants work with fabrics, wool, and various techniques. The course fosters important skills such as fine motor skills, patience, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. At the same time, it provides opportunities to meet like-minded individuals – a key aspect for social interaction in the neighborhood.
Another focus is on sustainability : Upcycling and reusing materials promotes a conscious use of resources.
Part of the BIWAQ funding program
The NALA project is funded by the "Education, Economy, Work in the Neighborhood – BIWAQ" of the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Construction, as well as by the European Union through the European Social Fund Plus . The City of Darmstadt also supports NALA with its own funds.
In addition to Eberstadt-Süd, the NALA project is also being implemented in Kranichstein and the Pallaswiesen/Morneweg district . The aim is to create career opportunities , remove barriers, and strengthen social cohesion in the neighborhood.
