Unusual long-distance swimming event shortly before Christmas at the Nordbad swimming pool
Just before Christmas, the triathletes of SG Arheilgen wanted to test themselves one last time.
On Monday morning, December 22, 2025, a self-organized, unofficial 100x100m swim was on the department's training schedule. The meeting point was the Darmstadt North Bath, right on time for opening shortly before 10 a.m.
Ten kilometers at your own pace
The 100x100 format isn't about personal bests or athletic comparisons, but about completing the total distance of ten kilometers. Participants swim 100 repetitions of 100 meters each. The focus is on perseverance and the shared experience. Everyone swims at their own pace, following the motto "Together is less lonely.".
That morning, five male and one female triathlete took on the challenge. The swim took place during regular pool hours, which didn't always make conditions easy. Short stops at the poolside for energy gels and a planned toilet break were included in the itinerary.
An idea with tradition in the triathlon department
The self-organized 100x100m run is already a tradition at SG Arheilgen. The format was initiated a few years ago by Anselm Schüle, who introduced a unique long-distance running concept to the club. This year, as in previous years, the focus was not on performance, but on the shared experience.
After the swim, the participants spent the rest of the morning together, enjoying a meal. The event demonstrated once again that the triathlon section of SG Arheilgen not only offers structured training but also provides space for creative, unusual, and deliberately unconventional sporting ideas.
