This initiative teaches children the value of helpfulness and solidarity
As the city of Reinheim reports, the Dieter J. Keil kindergarten in Gockert participated in the "Shine and Share" project of the aid organization GAIN in November. The aim of the project is to make children experience firsthand how important sharing, helpfulness, and community action are. With great enthusiasm, the children and their parents collected winter clothing for girls and boys in need – for example, in Ukraine, Moldova, Hungary, and in current disaster areas.
27 boxes of clothing thanks to great participation
Thanks to the generous support of the families, 27 boxes of clothing collected. The children enthusiastically helped sort and pack the donations and learned why warm clothing isn't a given for everyone. The educators reinforced this theme in everyday life, discussing the importance of sharing and how even small contributions can make a big difference.
Each child also received a suitable story in the form of a small booklet, as well as the song "Already a Little Light", which underlines the message of the campaign.
Children experience the consequences of their actions.
The growing collection impressed the group and motivated many children to contribute clothing themselves. Lea V. said, for example: "I have a pair of pants with strawberries on them that I'd like to bring."
Kindergarten director Julia Hofmann emphasizes the educational value of the project:
"Sharing, showing consideration and creating something together – these are the foundations for good coexistence. When children experience that they themselves make a positive difference, they begin to shine like lanterns in the dark."
Support from the community
Reinheim's mayor, Manuel Feick, is also impressed by the institution's commitment:
"I am delighted by this initiative. It shows how even our youngest children learn to take responsibility for one another. Projects like 'Shine and Share' not only strengthen children's social skills but are also a strong sign of solidarity in our community."
Special thanks go to the parents' council member Jörg Rosenthal , who brought the idea to the daycare center and organized the transport of the clothing boxes to the central GAIN warehouse in Gießen.
Project will continue
The kindergarten plans to continue the "Shine and Share" project next year in order to further promote values such as community, empathy and mutual support.
