Commemoration of the victims of the Hamas massacre in Israel 2023
On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, starting at 6 p.m., a silent commemoration of the victims of the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023, will take place at Luisenplatz in Darmstadt. More than 1,200 people were killed and over 240 were taken hostage; 48 of them are still being held hostage.
The Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation in Darmstadt, the Protestant Deanery of Darmstadt, and the Catholic Pastoral Area of Darmstadt-Mitte invite everyone to pause and light candles for the victims, hostages, and their families. Photos of the murdered victims will commemorate the events.
In addition to a brief welcome and introduction, clarinetist Irith Gabriely will provide musical accompaniment for the commemoration. Interested parties can chat with the organizers at standing tables. The vigil is supported by the Jewish Community of Darmstadt, the German-Israeli Society AG Darmstadt, and the Science City of Darmstadt.
The silent commemoration is part of a multi-day memorial program: On Sunday, October 5, there will be a rally at Friedensplatz at 5:30 p.m., and on Monday, October 6, the Association of Christian Churches invites people to an ecumenical prayer for peace at 6 p.m. on Kapellplatz.
