Commemoration of the victims of the Hamas massacre in Israel 2023
On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, a silent commemoration will be held at Luisenplatz in Darmstadt starting at 6 p.m. to remember the victims of the Hamas massacre of October 7, 2023, in Israel. More than 1,200 people were killed and over 240 were taken hostage; 48 of them are still being held hostage.
The Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation Darmstadt, the Protestant Deanery of Darmstadt, and the Catholic Pastoral Region of Darmstadt-Mitte invite you to pause and light candles for the victims, hostages, and their families. Photos of those murdered will serve as a reminder of the events.
In addition to a brief welcome and introduction, clarinetist Irith Gabriely will provide musical accompaniment for the commemoration. Those interested can speak with the organizers at standing tables. The vigil is supported by the Jewish Community of Darmstadt, the German-Israeli Society Darmstadt, and the City of Darmstadt.
The silent commemoration is part of a multi-day memorial program: On Sunday, October 5th, there will be a rally at 5:30 pm on Friedensplatz (Peace Square), and on Monday, October 6th, the Working Group of Christian Churches invites everyone to the Ecumenical Peace Prayer at 6 pm on Kapellplatz (Chapel Square).
