Fungal infestation threatens stability – replacement planting is planned
A severely damaged silver maple (Acer saccharinum) in the Herrngarten park must be felled. The tree, approximately 90 centimeters in diameter, is heavily infested with Ganoderma lucidum – a wood-decaying fungus that causes white rot and attacks both the trunk and root system. Since its structural integrity and stability are no longer guaranteed, the tree will be removed on Tuesday (May 6) as part of the city's duty to ensure public safety.
An inspection carried out on Monday (May 5) revealed that there are currently no protected animal species – such as those in cavities or nests – in the tree in question. Species protection has therefore been taken into account.
During the work, there may be restrictions on the surrounding paths. The Parks Department asks for your understanding. As a replacement, a climate-resilient tree species will be planted in the immediate vicinity to ensure the long-term ecological function of the Herrngarten.
