New siren systems in several city districts – monthly functional testing from commissioning
Weiterstadt. The city of Weiterstadt will begin expanding its siren network in the coming weeks. The goal is to provide comprehensive warnings to the population in the event of a disaster . The project, which was initiated several years ago, is now entering the concrete implementation phase.
Sirens for Riedbahn, Schneppenhausen, Braunshardt and the town center
The focus is particularly on districts that were previously unequipped or only inadequately equipped with siren systems . These include the town center of Weiterstadt, Riedbahn, Schneppenhausen, and Braunshardt. The new sirens will be installed on public buildings or freestanding masts and are designed to optimal acoustic range .
Technical commissioning and regular inspections
Once construction is complete, the systems will be put into technical operation. From this point on, a functional test every first Saturday of the month at 12 noon via the control center of the Darmstadt-Dieburg district – a procedure that is already established in areas already served.
The siren signals are standardized nationwide :
- One-minute rising and falling siren tone: Warning to the population – get information via radio, warning apps or the internet (not an emergency call!)
- One-minute continuous tone: All clear – no more danger
- A one-minute continuous tone, interrupted twice: Fire department alert
Civil protection in focus
The city explicitly points out that the monthly inspection not a genuine emergency . Rather, the measures serve to ensure technical functionality and increase security in the event of a crisis .
Further information will be published gradually, depending on the progress of construction. The city administration is available to answer any questions.
