New siren systems in several districts – monthly functional testing from commissioning
Weiterstadt. The city of Weiterstadt will begin expanding its siren network in the coming weeks. The goal is to provide comprehensive warning to the population in the event of a disaster . The project, initiated several years ago, is now entering the concrete implementation phase.
Sirens for Riedbahn, Schneppenhausen, Braunshardt and the city center
The focus is on districts that were previously unequipped or inadequately equipped with siren systems . These include the core city of Weiterstadt, Riedbahn, Schneppenhausen, and Braunshardt. The new sirens will be installed on public buildings or freestanding masts and are designed to optimal acoustic range .
Technical commissioning and regular inspections
After construction is complete, the systems will be put into operation. From then on, a functional test every first Saturday of the month at 12 noon via the Darmstadt-Dieburg district control center – a procedure that is established in areas already served.
The siren signals are standardized nationwide :
- One-minute rising and falling siren sound: Warning to the public – inform yourself via radio, warning apps, or the internet (not an emergency call!)
- One-minute continuous tone: All clear – no more danger
- One-minute continuous tone, interrupted twice: Fire brigade alert
Civil protection in focus
The city expressly points out that the monthly inspection does not constitute a real emergency . Rather, the measures serve to ensure technical functionality and increase safety in the event of a crisis .
Further information will be released gradually, depending on the construction progress. The city administration is available to answer any questions.
