Public warning is being tested using sirens and apps.
The city of Darmstadt has announced that a test of the sirens and warning systems will take place on Thursday, December 11th . Starting at 11:00 AM, all existing sirens in the city will be activated. Warning apps such as NINA and hessenWarn about the test. The aim of the test is to check the functionality of the city's warning systems and to familiarize the public with the signals.
The test alarm begins at 11 a.m. with a one-minute rising and falling siren tone . This signal signifies a "warning to the population" .
The following rules of conduct apply to this signal:
- seek out enclosed spaces
- Close doors and windows
- Turn on radios and listen for announcements
- Inform neighbors
- Follow current alerts in the warning apps (NINA, hessenWarn, etc.).
- Switch off ventilation and air conditioning systems
The test alarm will end at 11:05 a.m. one-minute continuous tone (all clear signal). The start and end times of the test alarm will also be announced via the warning apps.
