Four bench seat models will be available for voting from June 17th
The City of Darmstadt invites all citizens on new benches for Ernst-Ludwig-Straße and Ludwigsstraße June 17, 2025. Four different bench models are available for selection and can be tested immediately at Ernst-Ludwig-Platz to improve quality of life in the city center in collaboration with the community
Have your say for a better quality of life
The planned renovation is being carried out as part of the federal funding program "Central City Centers and Town Centers" (ZIZ) . The new seating is intended to functional, durable, and inviting . Mayor Hanno Benz explains:
"We actively involve citizens in the design of our city center. Their opinion is important to us, because they help decide what the future quality of life in Darmstadt should look like."
Planning Director Michael Kolmer also emphasizes the importance of citizen-oriented urban design:
"Well-designed, attractive street furniture is important so that people enjoy spending time in the city center. Now it's up to the citizens to choose their favorites."
Four benches to choose from – vote analog and digitally
All four test benches consist of a sturdy metal frame with certified Douglas fir wood , can be used on one or both sides , and differ in design. Voting will take place for approximately one month – either on-site by postcard (boxes are available at the benches) or digitally via QR code and the city's social media channels .
The ZIZ program has already supported bank exchange in Wilhelminenstrasse , greened pop-up furniture or the use of vacant spaces for pop-up shops
