Second team celebrates special success – first team is relegated
Weiterstadt-Gräfenhausen – The Gräfenhausen skat players back on the 2025 season with mixed feelings. While the second team achieved seventh place in the South Hesse regional league with a strong final sprint, the first team had to accept relegation from the third Bundesliga South.
The second team, consisting of Hilde Vohwinkel, Klaus Klingelhöfer, Henry Deutzer, Michael Geißer, Kerstin Banyay, Peter Neumann, and Marcel Wefers, impressed on the last match day with a 9:0 score. A particularly outstanding performance was Hilde Vohwinkel's "Grand ouvert with three" – a rare occurrence, happening only about once in 20,000 games.

The first team, consisting of Sascha Dechert, Martina Schmidt, Martin Steiger, Jürgen Führer, and Thomas Brückner, fought until the very end to avoid relegation. Despite having a balanced points tally before the final day, the team slipped to 13th place and will now be relegated back to the Regionalliga.

The disappointment was quickly forgotten at the subsequent summer festival. Members, families, and friends spent a convivial evening outdoors – with music, games, barbecue, homemade salads, and ice cream. For once, the cards remained untouched. However, next Wednesday at 7 p.m., it's back to the skat board for the practice night at the "Gamebox" on Schneppenhäuser Straße 5. Guest players are welcome.
