After 20 years of club work: Wolfgang Schroth takes over press relations at the Gräfenhausen skat club
On March 10, 2025, Helmut Bormet, a long-time member of the Gräfenhausen Skat Club, celebrated his 75th birthday – and on this occasion stepped down from his position as the club's press officer. Bormet had been active for more than two decades, holding almost every board position. "The only thing I hadn't been yet was chairman," he commented with a twinkle in his eye.
At last Wednesday's game night, the honoree symbolically handed over his pen to his successor, Wolfgang Schroth. "He's twenty years younger than me, and I can't keep doing the job forever," Bormet explained. Schroth, also a long-time club member, looks forward to his new role with respect and enthusiasm.
The skat club from Weiterstadt-Gräfenhausen is currently experiencing a surge in membership. More and more skat enthusiasts from the region are joining to enjoy the open and convivial atmosphere among the skat players. In addition to the sense of community, there is also sporting success: last year, the team became German champions in online skat. Furthermore, the club boasts two other top players: a Hessian champion and a German runner-up in the men's competition.
The skat players meet every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in their clubhouse "Gamebox" at Schneppenhäuser Straße 5 in Gräfenhausen. Guests are very welcome.
Further information about the club and membership is available directly on site or at the game nights.
