City and police together strengthen democracy, security and social cohesion
The science city of Darmstadt and the South Hesse police headquarters have founded the new association "Society and Police eV" together with civil society committed people from clubs, associations and institutions. The aim is to strengthen democracy and to actively support state organs such as the police, fire and disaster protection, rescue and civil protection through civil society engagement.

"With this foundation of the association, we are making a strong sign for our democracy," emphasized Mayor Hanno Benz. "Especially in challenging times, it is important to further expand the relationship of trust between the city society and the police."
Police President Björn Gutzeit also underlined the importance of the new association: "With 'Society and Police EV' we rely on dialogue, prevention and social cooperation. Security and social cohesion are common tasks of state and citizens."
In addition to Benz and Gutzeit, the association includes other well -known personalities from Darmstadt, including city councilor Paul Georg Wandrey, the former Frankfurt police chief Gerhard Bereswill, former Mayor of Darmstadt Rafael Reißer and representatives from sports, justice and business.
The foundation was inspired, among other things, by the successful model of the “Citizens and Police” association in Frankfurt am Main. Lecture evenings, crime prevention projects and various event formats to promote dialogue and civic engagement are planned.
Mayor Benz and Police President Gutzeit thanked the initiators Walter Hoffmann and Rafael Reißer for their impulse for founding the club and was convinced: "This association will help to strengthen the feeling of security and further promote social cohesion in Darmstadt."
