Network for political education invites you to lectures and film series
According to the Darmstadt Network for Political Education, the new fall series "Society of Fear? Between Crisis, Change, and the Principle of Hope" The series is dedicated to current social developments shaped by crises and aims to inspire hope and solidarity.
Opening with a lecture by Prof. Philipp Staab
The opening lecture will be given by sociologist Prof. Dr. Philipp Staab (Humboldt University Berlin) on Wednesday, September 24, at 7 p.m. at the Catholic Education Center nr30, Nieder-Ramstädter Straße 30, Darmstadt. His lecture is titled "Extending the Present: On Technological Change, Fear, and Politics in the Society of Adaptation."
The organizers emphasize that fear affects many areas of society: It endangers democracy and social cohesion, encourages right-wing extremist movements, and weakens confidence. The aim of the series is to shed light on these mechanisms and discuss counter-strategies.

The series includes four lectures:
- Wednesday, October 22: Dr. Marcel Dirsus (political scientist, author, and consultant) on “The Future of Democracy,” 7 p.m., Open House, Rheinstrasse 31.
- Wednesday, November 5: Miriam Zeleke (Hessian State Commissioner for the Promotion and Participation of Children and Young People) on “Children’s and Young People’s Rights Against Fears of the Future,” 7 p.m., Catholic Education Center nr30.
- Thursday, December 4: Dr. Florian Roth (social scientist, Zurich University of Applied Sciences) on “Positive Visions for a Complex Society,” 7 p.m., Open House.
Admission to the lectures is free, donations are welcome.
Accompanying film series at the arthouse cinema rex
The AlleWeltKino (All World will accompany the lecture series with films at the rex cinema, Grafenstraße 18–20. Each screening begins at 8:15 p.m. Admission: €6.50, concessions: €5.50.
