The party welcomes the takeover by entrepreneur Christian Kirk and calls for the active development of a modern campus district.
The Darmstadt Green Party has announced that it expressly welcomes the acquisition of the former Software AG site in Eberstadt by Darmstadt entrepreneur Christian Kirk. From the Greens' perspective, this ensures that one of Darmstadt's most important commercial areas remains in local hands and opens up new potential for the city as a center for science, business, and innovation.
Greens: "A stroke of luck for the science city"
Parliamentary group leader Eva Bredow-Cordier emphasizes that Darmstadt is a location with identity and attitude: Keeping the area in Darmstadt's possession is a stroke of luck and an important prerequisite for long-term location development.
The party believes the expansive site offers ideal conditions: characterful existing buildings, green spaces, and good connections to public transport, Eberstadt train station, and the motorway access road. These factors open up prospects for new forms of work and living.
Demand for actively supported site development
Party spokesperson Heiko Depner advocates for actively supporting the development of the site both politically and administratively. The Greens are calling for a modern campus district with open workspaces, energy efficiency, shared mobility, and space for innovative ideas.
The Greens believe that a partial conversion of office space into residential space should be examined, provided the owner desires this. A closely integrated work and living environment can be a decisive locational advantage, especially for startups.
Significance for the urban cluster strategy
For the Greens, it's about more than just real estate: the area is a strategic building block for the further development of Darmstadt as a city of science. Darmstadt must combine economic strength with social responsibility and ecological sustainability, says Bredow-Cordier.
Depner places the area's potential within the context of the city's cluster strategy: The IT cluster has changed, yet Darmstadt remains a leader in startups in Hesse and ranks fourth nationwide. A location focused on IT, deep tech, and research could further strengthen regional innovation.
