Working group recommends barrier-free leisure experience between Mörlenbach and Wald-Michelbach
The working group "Senior-Friendly Bergstraße District" presents an attractive excursion destination for senior citizens and their relatives each month on the Bergstraße District Senior Citizens ' Advisory Board's website. In October, the tip leads to the world's first solar-powered railbike between Mörlenbach and Wald-Michelbach .
A ride on the solar-powered railcar is a special experience for young and old. The approximately ten-kilometer-long, listed railway line takes you through impressive natural scenery, over three historic viaducts and through two tunnels – a journey that takes about an hour in each direction.
Thanks to an electric motor, no special fitness level is required: as soon as you start pedaling, the solar-powered drive engages and makes the ride easier. The railbike cabins can accommodate up to eight people and reach speeds of up to 15 km/h.
Since stop signals and barriers must be operated along the way, at least one person per cabin must have and carry a valid driver's license
Accessible excursion with beautiful views
The train stations in Mörlenbach and Wald-Michelbach are barrier-free and can be used with a walker or wheelchair . Wheelchair users can drive directly into the cabin – the staff will ensure safe boarding with just a few simple steps.
Reservations are recommended , as larger crowds are expected, especially on weekends. Those starting from Mörlenbach can explore the town center of Wald-Michelbach with its restaurants and cafes after their return trip.
The entire tour takes approximately four hours . Further information regarding departure times, prices, and parking can be found on the official website www.solardraisine-ueberwaldbahn.de or by calling +49 6207 2049130. Please note: The solar railcar is not in operation from November to March .
