Celebrating safely on New Year's Eve – police appeal for cautious behavior
To ensure that New Year's celebrations and festive atmosphere don't end in accidents or damage, the South Hesse police to citizens prudently and responsibly . This applies to celebrations in public places as well as in private settings.
The police point out the following important information for New Year's Eve.
Safety when handling fireworks
- The manufacturer's instructions must be strictly followed. Age restrictions must be observed, and fireworks should only be purchased if they are approved for use
- Approved fireworks are considered safe to handle when used correctly. This is conditional upon the instructions for use being read carefully and followed consistently .
- Fireworks may only be set off where permitted . Local regulations of cities and municipalities must be observed. Setting off fireworks is prohibited in some city centers or designated areas.
- In Germany, setting off New Year's Eve fireworks is only permitted from December 31st to January 1st .
Keep your distance and avoid dangers
- Fireworks should only be ignited on level and open surfaces safety distance must be maintained after lighting .
- Fireworks and rockets must never be thrown blindly or aimed at people.
- The use of illegal fireworks or improper handling not only endangers one's own health, but also that of uninvolved persons and can, in the worst case, life-threatening consequences .
Protection of home and property
- To avoid fire hazards, furniture, household items, and other flammable objects be removed from balconies and terraces. Windows and doors should remain closed.
- Valuables such as mobile phones or bags not be left unattended in public areas
Celebrate responsibly
- When celebrating, it's important to look out for yourself and others . Excessive alcohol consumption and risky behavior can lead to health emergencies.
