In a recent press release SPD parliamentary group in Darmstadt emphasizes that Mayor and Head of Economic Affairs Hanno Benz is setting new, social-democratic priorities in Darmstadt's economic policy. According to the SPD, this approach differs significantly from the previous direction taken by the CDU and the Greens.
According to SPD parliamentary group leader Michael Siebel , current economic policy follows a new understanding that more closely links work, social justice, and economic development. "Unlike the CDU and the Greens, we are now pursuing a social democratic economic and social policy committed to the ideal of a work-based society," said Siebel. "We want people to find and stay in jobs – under fair conditions. Work and the economy are two sides of the same coin."
