Siebel and Kaffenberger are calling for quick implementation in Darmstadt
The SPD parliamentary group Darmstadt supports the current draft law to combat speculative vacancies of living space. With the law, an important step towards limiting rising rents and the recovery of living space is taken, said the SPD parliamentary group leader Michael Siebel :
"There is also speculative vacancy in Darmstadt. This can be eliminated in the future. All measures to return unused living space to the rental market are to be welcomed."
The SPD demands that the science city of Darmstadt already begins with the development of a corresponding municipal statutes in order to be able to act according to the legislation. "We know ourselves in good society," continued Siebel. German Tenants' Association of Hesse also been demanding the law for years, since there are sometimes serious vacancies of entire buildings and economic units, especially in metropolitan areas. In view of the tense living space situation, this is no longer acceptable.
SPD party chairman Bijan Kaffenberger adds: "Darmstadt is one of the cities with a tense housing market. As soon as the law has been decided in the state parliament, the city must act. Every apartment empty for speculation is too much."
The aim of the law is to give municipalities the legal basis in order to actively act against unfounded vacancy and to be able to sanction them.
