The color green in hunting culture – An exhibition at Kranichstein Hunting Lodge
the Kranichstein Hunting Lodge Museum presents the special exhibition "When the Stag Sees Red – Hunters and Their Green". The exhibition explores the multifaceted significance of the color green in hunting from biological, historical, and cultural perspectives.
Exhibition themes
- Color perception and nature : The exhibition shows how the human eye perceives colors, the role chlorophyll plays in nature, and how wild animals see colors.
- Historical hunting clothing : A special focus is placed on the development of hunting clothing and the significance of the color green as a status symbol in courtly and bourgeois hunting culture.
- Influence on interior design : Hunting also had an impact on the interior design of the 18th and 19th centuries. Exhibits such as green-painted furniture, textile accessories, and wall coverings from upper-middle-class and aristocratic collections demonstrate the connection between green and a love of nature and social standing.
The exhibition combines historical objects with interactive stations and current scientific findings. A diverse accompanying program complements the show.
