City adjusts regulations for tradespeople, social services and businesses
Darmstadt. The city of Darmstadt, known for its scientific institutions, has its regulations for special parking permits for businesses, freelancers, and social and technical services, effective July 1, 2025. fair distribution of public parking space in the managed zones around the city center – while taking into account the important commercial and service traffic.

Tradesman parking permit and tradesman blocks
regional tradesperson parking permit has been an integral part of parking management in the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region since 2006. It allows tradespeople to park during work hours in metered parking zones, short-term parking areas, zones requiring parking discs, and resident parking spaces . The permit is now also recognized in numerous municipalities outside of Hesse.
"tradesman's blocks have been available since 2001. These contain ten individual permits and cost €140 per block . Among other things, the permits allow free parking in restricted parking zones, at one work site for up to seven days, or at up to five work sites in one day – even in pedestrian zones.

New special parking permits for businesses without parking spaces
For businesses, freelancers, and social and technical service providers that do not have parking spaces at their business premises , a new special parking permit system has been introduced. This permit entitles them to permanent parking in the vicinity of their business location if renting a space within a reasonable distance is not possible. The permit costs €120 per year .
pricing structure based on the number of permits has also been introduced : Small businesses continue to benefit from favorable rates, while for larger fleets the fees increase depending on the number of permits requested.

Special permits for social and technical services
Care services or technical services can also zone-specific exemption permits . These are valid in all parking zones outside their own business zone . The annual fee is also €120 , and the application is submitted informally via email.
Regional validity of the tradesman's parking permit
The regional tradesperson parking permit is valid not only in Darmstadt, but also in over 30 other cities and districts – including Frankfurt, Mainz, Wiesbaden, Offenbach, Rüsselsheim, Hanau, Worms, and the entire Darmstadt-Dieburg, Groß-Gerau, Offenbach, and Bergstraße districts Lahn-Dill district and its municipalities have also been since June 1, 2025
