The city is lowering the annual fee and introducing a digital application process
As of July 1, 2025, the city of Darmstadt has introduced revised regulations for special parking permits for businesses. The annual fee for the permit is now a uniform €120 – the same as for resident parking permits. The aim of the reform is to ensure a fairer use of public parking space and to promote sustainable business mobility .
In addition to the fee reduction, a digital and standardized application process has been introduced. Businesses can now download the application form from the Darmstadt Digital Town Hall and send it by email to the road traffic authority:
strassenverkehrsbehoerde@darmstadt.de
The review is conducted individually by the administration. Digitization is intended to make the process faster and more transparent .
Tiered system for vehicle registration quantities for larger fleets
Also new is a tiered system for the number of parking permits that companies can apply for. While small businesses benefit from the low annual fee, the costs increase for larger companies with extensive vehicle fleets. The city hopes this will encourage larger companies to use their own parking spaces or develop alternative mobility strategies .
Mobility officer Paul Georg Wandrey emphasizes:
"The adjusted range of special parking permits remains generous and cost-effective compared to other regions – especially for smaller commercial users. At the same time, we are setting targeted incentives for fairer use of parking spaces and greater personal responsibility in space utilization."
