Darmstadt simplifies special parking permits for businesses
The city council of Darmstadt, a city of science, decided in its meeting on Wednesday (May 21) to amend the regulations for issuing special parking permits for businesses . The aim is to simplify the application process, harmonize fees, and make parking management more transparent and practical.
“The parking management system that has been introduced has proven to be very effective in recent years and, with great acceptance among the population, has significantly reduced the search for parking and parking pressure in the neighborhoods,” emphasizes Mobility Officer Paul Georg Wandrey .
The new regulation introduces a standardized, digital application process . This will be easily accessible via the city's digital town hall. Fees for special parking permits will be in line with those for resident parking permits . Currently, the annual fee is €120. This adjustment will be maintained permanently to ensure price parity for virtually identical usage
Relief for small and medium-sized businesses
The new tiered permit system is primarily intended to benefit small and medium-sized enterprises by providing them with sufficient exemptions at a fair price. The city is also sending a signal that it intends to promote efficient mobility planning in the commercial sector
Compared to other Hessian cities like Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, or Hanau, Darmstadt remains generous in the number of approved special parking permits . The regional tradesperson parking permit for the Frankfurt Rhine-Main area remains unaffected by the changes.
“With this measure, we are taking another step towards peace in mobility . Businesses gain more planning certainty, and at the same time we are contributing to fairer and more efficient parking management in Darmstadt,” explains Wandrey.
The new procedure will evaluated after it comes into force and adjusted if necessary .
