Mayor Hanno Benz: "Now is the time to identify and develop synergies and implement projects together."
Representatives from business, education, administration, and labor market institutions engaged in intensive discussions about the skilled worker shortage in Darmstadt at the second "Skilled Workforce Situation" workshop. Participants included the Institute for Economics, Labor and Culture (IWAK), the Skilled Workers Unit for Hesse, the Darmstadt Rhine-Main-Neckar Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Chamber of Skilled Crafts, the Federal Employment Agency, the Darmstadt Job Center, and the Darmstadt Adult Education Center.
The Office for Economic Development and Urban Planning explained the local labor market situation with forecasts up to 2030. The Chamber of Industry and Commerce presented options for the professional recognition of foreign qualifications. The Darmstadt Adult Education Center presented measures for developing skilled labor potential and the importance of language courses for successful integration.
Mayor Hanno Benz emphasized: “I am pleased that the future workshop has addressed the topics I have been raising for some time. The goal now is to identify potential synergies, develop them, and implement joint projects.” Benz had already highlighted these priorities at the first growth conference of the science city of Darmstadt in cooperation with the Technical University of Darmstadt in October 2024.
The second future workshop was organized by IWAK in cooperation with the Office for Economic Affairs and Urban Development and the Darmstadt Rhine Main Neckar Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
