Family concert and main concert on March 29th in St. Josef Eberstadt
Johann Sebastian Bach 's St. John Passion is one of the most important works in music history. On Sunday, March 29, 2026 , the Darmstadt Vocal Ensemble and the Frankfurt Main Baroque Orchestra, conducted by Jorin Sandau, will perform the Passion in its late 1749 version St. Joseph's Catholic Church .
The vocal soloists Rahel Maas (soprano) , Anne Bierwirth (alto) , Erik Grevenbrock-Reinhardt (tenor) , Christos Pelekanos (bass) , and Johannes Hill (bass) . The performance opens with the introductory chorus "Lord, Our Ruler" and combines Gospel text, chorales, and freely composed texts into a powerful musical narrative of the Passion story according to the Gospel of John.
Family concert as an introduction for young listeners
The main concert is preceded by a family concert for children and young people aged 10 and up . In a roughly 60-minute version, the story is placed in a modern context and presented in an age-appropriate manner – regardless of cultural background. Anna Kobinger, as narrator, guides the audience through the performance, explaining the structure and musical connections, and demonstrating how music can convey meanings that words alone cannot express.
