The annual report shows approximately 69,000 loans and over 330 new registrations
The Griesheim municipal library has once again achieved a record number of loans in its 2024 annual report. A total of 69,280 items were borrowed – a significant increase compared to 2023, which saw around 67,000 loans. Demand for digital media grew particularly strongly: 17,527 loans were for e-media from the online lending service, representing approximately a quarter of all loans.
Books remain the most popular medium – Tonies are in high demand
The physical media collection was expanded in 2024 by 1,247 new acquisitions, to 16,726 items . The "Tonies" audio play figures , especially "Dr. Brumm is Stuck" with 29 loans . However, traditional books, particularly children's and young adult literature , remain the most important medium: the collection in this segment increased to 7,754 items , with a 7 percent increase in loans to 31,304 .
Among the most-read children's books, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Volume 6" led the way with 24 loans, followed by "Conni Helps Mom" with 21 loans. For young people aged twelve and up, the "Keeper of the Lost Cities" series by Shannon Messenger was particularly popular.
also emerged crime genre fiction readers, the finale of Lucinda Riley's "Seven Sisters" saga was a highlight – "Atlas – The Story of Pa Salt" was borrowed 14 times.
Over 16,000 visitors on site – 26 events held
16,658 visitors used the library's services (2023: 16,322). The library had over 1,500 regular readers and 333 new registrations Twenty-six events took place, including numerous picture book screenings and media literacy programs for children. Highlights included a reading celebrating Elisabeth Langgässer's 125th birthday in cooperation with the city archives, as well as the Second Griesheim Book Fair . A total of 864 guests attended the events.
