Citizens' jury decides on relocation – seating now also available in front of the Spitzweg Pharmacy
The street furniture from the federal funding program "Sustainable City Centers and Town Centers" is being moved again within the city center. It has been a prominent feature of the cityscape since summer 2023 – now some elements have been relocated from the town hall square to Georg-Schüler-Platz (Green Room) and to the south side of Wilhelm-Leuschner-Straße in front of the Spitzweg Pharmacy.
The new location offers seating for the first time in this section of the street. "A real benefit," agrees the pharmacy owner. Customers of nearby businesses, such as Hofmann's bakery or the pharmacy, can now take a break right there. This eliminates the previous need for people with mobility impairments or the elderly to cross the street or head towards Edeka. Waiting times can now also be passed more comfortably.
The city furniture jury decides with
The relocation was based on a recommendation from the so-called " urban furniture jury" —a citizens' group established as part of the funding program to assist with the design and placement of the furniture. At their fourth meeting in early April, the members voted in favor of the new arrangement. The suggestion to move the bicycle racks to the south side also came from the jury. This is intended to improve pedestrian access, especially for people with mobility impairments. Additional bicycle racks are located near the market square.
New furniture and locations are being planned
City Decks will soon deliver new elements to replace the existing circular sunbathing areas. These will initially be installed in front of the town hall.
