Improved quality of life and new usage opportunities in the urban area
In Groß-Gerau, there is now a new way to actively experience public space: Innovative street furniture has been installed as part of the "Transform-R" project. The 14 pieces of furniture – including urban terraces, seating combinations, bicycle parking facilities, parklet oases, planter boxes, and an information pillar for citizen feedback – represent a more livable urban design.
The project is initiated by the FrankfurtRheinMain Regional Association , funded by the federal government , and provided free of charge by the state of Hesse as part of the "Rediscovering Streets" program. Test run for improved quality of stay
The aim of this measure is to increase amount of time people spend in public spaces

Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau explains:
"With this real-world laboratory, we want to demonstrate how urban spaces can be made more livable. The project offers a unique opportunity to test innovative urban design with direct citizen participation."
Project duration until September – participation welcome
The trial run is designed to last six months and is divided into two sections:
- March 4 to June 23, 2025
- July to approximately September 2025
Throughout the project's duration, Goethe University Frankfurt scientific support. In addition to traffic monitoring , various participatory formats for citizens and businesses planned. This will allow direct feedback to be incorporated into the evaluation and contribute to the optimization of future concepts .
With "Transform-R", Groß-Gerau is setting an example for sustainable urban development . The project serves as a real-world laboratory to test innovative solutions for challenges such as urban transformation, climate change, increasing traffic volume , and the growing importance of e-commerce .
The city invites all citizens to discover the new street furniture and to actively participate in the process.
