The next event in the series will be on July 9th – focusing on biodiversity in times of climate change
DARMSTADT – What connects biodiversity with adaptation to climate change? This question will be the focus of the next urban nature walk organized by the Environmental Office of the City of Darmstadt on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. begins at 5 p.m. at Schlossgartenplatz . Participation is free, and registration is not required.
The walk will be led by Karin Lübbe , biologist and head of the environmental office. The focus will be on practical insights into how biodiversity increases the resilience of urban ecosystems and how near-natural green spaces help to better cope with extreme weather events such as drought or heavy rainfall .
Selected examples will be used to demonstrate:
- which plants and animals are particularly adaptable,
- how green spaces serve as water reservoirs
- and why even small biotopes in the urban area have a major impact on the microclimate.
Furthermore, there are specific tips on how citizens can contribute to promoting biodiversity and climate adaptation through simple measures – whether in their own garden, on the balcony or in public spaces.
The next urban nature walks will take place on the following dates:
- August 13, 2025
- September 10, 2025
- October 8, 2025
