Ballon rises 36 kilometers high-Digi_Space project starts again in August with free places
Bergstrasse district. With a balloon almost to the edge of space-this special project realized pupils of the ninth grade at the Starkenburg-Gymnasium Heppenheim as part of a scientific course. After months of planning and several weather -related setbacks, the team managed to get stratospheric balloon up to around 36,000 meters On board: Several cameras and an experiment structure with milk, orange juice and a freshly picked flower.
The research mission was implemented together with teacher Eva Nagel and Jan Fuchs , the head of the Digi_Space of the Bergstrasse district. The balloon provided spectacular shots from the stratosphere and valuable data on temperature, air pressure, humidity and radiation. After the balloon, an integrated parachute ensured a safe return of the measuring devices, which could finally be recovered Etzean (Oberzent)
Experience research and technology in a practical way
The project was part of the MINT funding program and linked digital education with practical research experience . "In addition to scientific questions, the young people have also learned to deal with setbacks and hold out - that is exactly what is part of real research," said Jan Fuchs. Two failed attempts had to be canceled due to bad weather conditions.

The stratospheric balloon was started emission -free and not only offered fascinating images from the earth from great height, but also enabled the analysis of how extreme conditions affect everyday substances. For many participants, it was the first direct contact with applied science - and an experience that gave an impression.
Further participation in summer possible
Interested young people aged 15 and over have the opportunity to become part of a balloon start during the summer vacation. In the fifth holiday week (4th to 8th of August 2025), Digi_Space of the Bergstrasse district organizes another stratospheric mission with hands -on offers for young people from all over the circle.
