The Darmstadt Women's Office invites you to a discussion on March 6th
To mark International Women's Day and its 40th anniversary, the Women's Office of the City of Darmstadt invites you to a lecture and discussion event entitled "Strengthening Feminism – Protecting Democracy" on Friday, March 6th, at the Justus Liebig House. The event begins at 4:45 p.m. and will focus on the topic of antifeminism.
Mayor and Women's Affairs Officer Barbara Akdeniz emphasizes that, in addition to democracy, women's rights and the achievements of the women's movement are increasingly coming under pressure. The aim of the event is to shed light on gender equality policy challenges and to develop municipal approaches to action.
Antifeminism in focus
The event will be opened by Mayor Akdeniz together with Edda Feess, head of the Women's Office. Following this, Dr. Laura Sasse will give a keynote address on the background, ideologies, and manifestations of antifeminism. The connection to antidemocratic positions will also be addressed.
In a subsequent fishbowl discussion, participants can contribute their own ideas and discuss them with the speaker. The focus will be on questions of civic engagement, strengthening democracy, and concrete opportunities for action at the local level.
The ideas developed will be incorporated into the third equality action plan for the science city of Darmstadt. This plan is being developed within the framework of the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life, which Darmstadt joined in 2015.
